Purpose and Scope of Job:
- · Determines best ways to achieve SMA’s Production/Manufacturing goals.
- · Plans and designs manufacturing processes (parts, equipment, tools, manpower, layout) to meet prescribed product quality, throughput, profitability and safety standards.
- · Maximizes efficiency & productivity by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, work force utilization, and statistical data.
Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned):
- · Analyze and design Lean Manufacturing (Assembly) cells using effective systems and simulation tools to optimize the use of space, equipment, tools, material and personnel. Increase productivity, eliminate waste and influence new designs to minimize overall cost of operation.
- · Design and Maintain Lean Manufacturing practices such as Single Piece flow systems, Perfect First pass yield, Automation & Visual factory. Maintain a culture of 5S (Sort, Set and Order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain) in the workplace.
- · Introduce & Champion a culture of continuous improvement and learning by the scientific method in the assigned areas.
- · Prepare and maintain detailed Process Maps, Standard Operating Procedures and Poka-Yoke systems.
- · Develop & Maintain plant layout; optimize space utilization by arranging/rearranging equipment, inventory & work cells.
- · Use SPC techniques and systematic Problem Solving methods as required to analyze data and ensure efficient production methods and quality results. Conduct time studies to analyze processes & validate recommended process changes.
- · Work closely with research and development, quality assurance, and maintenance personnel to prevent problems with products and tooling/fixtures.
- · Ensure all manufacturing safety regulatory policies and procedures are implemented and maintained at all times.
- · Complete in-process quality audits, quality system audits, and on-site quality investigations.
- · Ensure production adherence to policies, processes, procedures, and quality standards.
- · Perform special metrology inspections when Quality Alerts have been issued.
- · Perform analysis of quality data.
- · Communicate quality issues and risks to the Operations Manager.
- · Participate in the establishment and oversight of quality policies and procedures.
- · Assist in the development of root cause analysis and the writing of documents such as 8Ds, 5 Why, and quality investigation reports.
- · Support SMA external and internal customers requiring application assistance relating to SMA products / services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- · Bachelor’s Degree Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, or other technical field or equivalent experience. Graduate degree (or equivalent of 5 additional years of relevant experience) preferred, but not required.
- · Lean Manufacturing experience.
- · Requires one (1) year of experience in durable goods manufacturing or in a closely related area.
- · Experience in Statistical Process Control.
